Hairdressing competition. Three rounds see the eight stylists incorporate a quiff into a hairstyle, cut human hair on mannequin heads and create a hairstyle with a fairytale theme.
Steve Jones hosts a competition in which eight young amateur hairstylists hope they have got what it takes to win the title of Britain's best amateur hairdresser. To do that, they will have to impress the judges - Royal hairdresser Denise McAdam and celebrity superstar stylist Alain Pichon, who counts David Beckham as one of his clients.
In the first challenge, the eight hopefuls must incorporate a quiff into a hairstyle. The judges want it to be at least seven centimetres high, so they will have to draw on their technical understanding of hair to get the volume needed to please Denise and Alain.
In round two, the stylists must cut real human hair on identical mannequin heads. Their challenge is a perfect one-length haircut. This is a fundamental cut, and Alain and Denise are looking for precision and accuracy. But with many of the competitors being self-taught, cutting hair isn't their forte. In fact, it's the first haircut 24-year-old vintage enthusiast Laura has ever done. Will the stylists be able to hold their nerves and cut a perfectly straight line?
In the final round, the freestyle challenge, the stylists must draw on their technical and creative ability as they are asked to create a hairstyle with a fairytale theme. 24-year-old critical care nurse Annie takes a technical risk by using a wig cap to create her Ice Queen, whilst 16-year-old Kobi's Unicorn Horn leaves host Steve speechless. 22-year-old beautician Amy opts for a Rapunzel theme, but has problems getting to grips with the hair extensions she wants to use to create the plait.
At the end of the programme, the fairytale is over for one person as they leave the competition for good.
