Hair contestant Annie gives her take on rick-racking hair.

You’ll need:
Large Hair Pins
Hair Pins & Grips
Hairspray
Soft Brush
Hair Straighteners

Steps:
Take a small section of hair – the size of your section will determine how big or small your rickracking will be. If your section is too large, it won’t be able to twist round the hair grip.

Add a bit of hairspray to your section to help it hold to the grip. Place the large hair pin at the base of the section of hair, slotting the hair between the legs of the grip so it sits in the bend of the pin. Then start to wind the hair alternatively around each leg of the hair grip in a figure of eight.

If you begin to get close to the end of the grip, push the hair back up the grip and continue weaving.

When you’ve weaved all the hair section, twist the ends of grip together to secure tightly in place.

Clamp the hair straighteners on the weaved hair grip for a few seconds.

Continue the process across the whole of the hair.

Once the whole hair has been weaved, go back to your first section and untwist the grip ends and slide the grip out, keeping the hair’s shape. It should create a crimped effect on the section of hair.

Continue the process and remove all the grips from the hair.

Use a soft brush to begin brushing out the rickracking – the more brushing, the bigger the hair will get! You can also use your fingers to separate the hair out as well as backcombing sections for even more volume.

Pin sections down if necessary. Spray the hair to finish.
