PM listeners' sounds: Reading

This recording was made by Maggie Brown and Emma Rayner who are English intervention assistants at Neale-Wade Academy in March, Cambridgeshire.

It is the sounds of 30, Year 7 students reading aloud to their sixth form 'reading buddies'. Maggie and Emma say this session is held every Thursday during form time and is to encourage youngsters who are reluctant readers to enjoy books of their own choice. They are teamed up with sixth formers who listen to them read and help them improve their reading skills and build confidence.

Maggie and Emma say: "We often comment how much they sound like a swarm of bees buzzing with happiness. It really is the sweetest of sounds to our ears."
