African American Civil Rights Activist - Dr Benjamin Chavis Jr

One of the leaders of the US civil rights movement talks to Sarah Montague in front of a live audience at the 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Theatre in London.

Once Martin Luther King鈥檚 assistant, African American civil rights activist Benjamin Chavis is one of the leaders of the US civil rights movement.

At the age of 24 he was convicted of arson as leader of the Wilmington Ten protests, and sentenced to 34 years in prison. He was freed in 1980 after a federal appeal court overturned the convictions, and became Vice President of the National Council of Churches of the USA.
