Yulia Brodskaya and paper quilling - introduction
Russian artist Yulia explains that the signature feature of her artwork is drawing with paper instead of drawing on it. When she came to the UK she felt a creative buzz and wanted to try new things. She used the traditional paper craft technique of quilling involving strips of paper that are rolled and shaped together. Traditional examples are shown and Yulia explains how she has made this craft more modern by adding letterforms and constructing intricate relief portraits and large scale decorative reliefs.
The type of work that she has created includes book covers, large advertising signs and tutorials. She explores new techniques to create relief work in paper linking to portraits, pattern and natural forms.
