Dylan Thomas reads The Hand That Signed the Paper

This is the earliest recording of Dylan Thomas reading a poem still in the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú archives. It was recorded on the 18th October 1938 in Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Manchester for a programme titled 'The Modern Muse' which featured other more established poets of the time including Auden, Spender and C. Day Lewis. He was aged 23 at the time. This was his second appearance on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú – an earlier reading from April 1937 has been lost. The poem was first published in the collection ’25 Poems’ in 1936.
