A Tale of Two Davids

The story of Man U goalkeeper David de Gea and Macclesfield Town's David Gonzalez.

As youngsters, David de Gea and David Gonzalez played together for the Spanish national football team that reached the final of the Under 17 World Cup鈥 One David now plays for Manchester United one of the most famous football clubs in the world, whilst the other David plays nearby for the slightly less glamorous Macclesfield Town. Joel Hammer presents the Tale of Two Davids.

Ghana Soccer Heist: The Movie
One of the most controversial stories from the 2014 World Cup is set for the big screen treatment. In June, the Ghana team refused to train just days before their final group match against Portugal because of a row over appearance fees. Ghana's government stepped in and sent more than $3m in cash by plane to Brazil to pay the players. Now Hollywood is planning to add its spin to create 鈥楾he Ghana Soccer Heist Movie'. The writer Darryl Wharton-Rigby tells John Bennett there will be 鈥淟ots of money, soccer balls, a stadium and a guy on the run鈥

Cybathlon 2016
It sounds like science fiction, but the world's first bionic Olympics is being organised. It's called the Cybathalon and will be held in Switzerland. This week marked two years to go until the start of Cybathlon 2016. Professor Robert Riener from the University of Zurich is an expert in developing robot-aided rehabilitation and is involved in organising this unique competition.

Sport, Guns and Masculinity
On Monday Oscar Pistorius will learn of the sentence he will serve having been found guilty of the culpable homicide of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The case which dominated the global media, has raised some important issues including gun ownership. Dean Peacock is the founding director of Sonke Gender Justice a South African organisation dedicated to action against violence against women. He believes that like the sporting arena that Pistorius inhabited, gun ownership is used as a way of asserting masculinity. Do 鈥榬eal men鈥 play sport and own guns?

In 1974, the British Lions rugby team went on a legendary, but controversial tour of apartheid South Africa . They returned as heroes who had humbled white South Africa's beloved national team. Sporting Witness talks to the Welsh winger, JJ Williams, a famous member of the Lions squad.
