Market Place, Warwick: The Day the War Ended

It was called The War to End all Wars; four years of sacrifices deaths and changes in the workplace and at home. In early November 1918, the mood across the country was that it would soon be over.

Finally, the news that everyone had been waiting for: at 10.20am on 11 November 1918, the British Prime Minister David Lloyd George issued a notice that the Armistice had been signed. Telegrams were immediately sent out.

Hear how the Armistice news was heard across Coventry and Warwickshire. Warwick appeared to have the biggest celebrations as the news coincided with a fundraising Big Gun Week.
