Children’s Hospital: The Chaplains - Episode 3
The parents of three-year-old Viyan Shah have just been told that his cancer has returned. After 18 months of clear scans the news is devastating. It’s the job of Hindu chaplain Rakesh Bhatt to support the family as they face up to the diagnosis.
Sister Florence - one of the Roman Catholic chaplains at the hospital – is helping twelve-year-old Emer Powell as she struggles to recover from a second liver transplant. Emer wants to go home but before she can do so doctors need to work out what’s slowing down her recovery.
And after spending the best part of this year in Birmingham Children’s Hospital eleven year old Ria is desperate to be allowed to leave for just one night to see her favourite band – One Direction. Ria has Cerebral Palsy and is suffering from seizures to her spine. She has just a few days to convince doctors she’s well enough to go with the support of Methodist chaplain Kathryn Darby.
