Concerns over the standards of Melbourne's taxi drivers have made the news in recent years - official passenger complaints include claims of dangerous driving and violent altercations over fares.

The Taxi Services Commission was established in 2013 to improve the industry and sought inspiration from London's black cabs (Hackney carriages) - who have to pass an in-depth test called The Knowledge.
