How to design and make a nightlight for a toddler

Chemical engineer, Yasmin Ali, helps a team of children to research, design and make a nightlight for a toddler using recycled materials. The children go to meet the toddler and her Mum to research the design requirements and consider the needs of the user. They look at the toddler鈥檚 room for inspiration. Having looked at a variety of existing nightlights they split into groups to sketch a couple of different ideas. Having chosen one design, they make their prototype. One group constructs and decorates the light using reclaimed materials. The other group decides to use a light-dependent resistor as a sensor. They connect the LEDs and sensor to a control board and write code to control when the lights go on and off. The children show their finished prototype to the toddler and her Mum and listen to their feedback.
