Rugby Union could see ‘an erosion in values’

The CEO of the Rugby Players’ Association in England, Damian Hopley, says with more money in the game there could be an 'erosion' of ‘values’

In recent years millions of dollars has been poured into club rugby in Europe especially in France where a deal between a broadcaster and the top 14 clubs is worth more than 70m euros a year.

It has attracted top English and southern hemisphere talent such as Jonny Wilkinson, Steffon Armitage and Dan Carter.

Damian Hopley says in rugby union "we pride ourselves on the values of the game" and says it is important to remember its heritage.

But he adds: "Clearly as you see more money come into the game there could well be an erosion of those values."
