How can MPs amend a bill?

There are 650 MPs and each must balance different aspects of their job: They are representatives for their constituents. They must support their political party. And they must scrutinise the government. We meet Sarah Champion MP and see how an MP can change legislation. Sarah Champion is a relatively new MP and still learning how the House of Commons really works. After the child abuse scandal in Rotherham, she is determined to strengthen the law on child sexual exploitation. She wants to amend the Criminal Courts and Justice Bill. We follow her as she meets with the clerks. We see her make her case to a minister in a Bill Committee. We also see Sarah Champion accepting how Parliament works in order to make a change to the law.
