Musical theatre production of I Know Me (pt 1/6)
The first in a six-part musical theatre production in which we see the principle characters in their roles as bully and victim.
The first part of a six-part original musical, written and produced for secondary SEN schools. We see the characters of the musical I Know Me in an animated opening sequence of 'playing card' photos. The entire cast feature in the musical’s first song, The School Photo, an uptempo ensemble number set inside and outside a school building. We see pupils hurrying around getting themselves ready to have their picture taken by the school photographer. Vignettes of individuals and groups of pupils introduce the musical’s characters. The song includes a rap refrain, performed by the school bullies. When the photographer fails to show up the bullies go on the prowl in search of a victim. They home in on Sidney, one of the musical's principle characters, who's reading in the library. In contrast to the first song, in The Bullying Song we’re introduced to a darker side of school life in which vulnerable pupils are victimised and purposefully humiliated. The second number includes rap from the bullies and singing from Sidney. We’re given an insight into Sidney’s character, and also Jake’s – another principle character and one of the bullies. We see Sidney trying to get away from the bullies and being chased. He runs into a lift. Jake manages to get in just as the doors close.
