The crumbling Casbah of Algiers
For centuries Algiers' Casbah has been home to sultans, pirates, freedom fighters and artisans.
But now this UN World Heritage site is in deep trouble. Years of neglect has led to the collapse of more than a third of the area's properties.
A foundation to restore the Casbah was set up in 1990, but since then very little has been achieved.
Head of the Casbah Restoration Project Abdelouahab Zekagh explains the reasons behind the delay.
