Pete Townshend joins Steve Lamacq

Steve is in conversation with rock legend Pete Townsend, to discuss The Who's sixth studio album, 'Quadrophenia', 6 Music's Classic Album Of The Day.

Pete discusses candidly the trouble around the making of the album, and how he had to build a new studio in order to do justice to the recording ambition of 'Quadrophenia', in quadraphonic sound. Plus, the challenges the band faced with touring the full version of the production, after the records release in 1973.

Pete also puts in to context the importance of the record at the time, when it was released in 1973, and how each member of The Who was represented in the recording.

Pete Townsend was responsible for writing and composing the whole of Quadrophenia, so is perfectly placed to deconstruct its story...
