The George Cowley Experience began life in the summer of 2001 and describe themselves as a collective rather than a band with a set number of members, something like a So Solid Crew only based in Worcestershire.

Taking their name from famed local man of letters, George Cowley, the band produce their own brand of surreal folk rock music, often taking a wry look at everyday events.

Influences are Bob Dylan, Screaming Lord Sutch and George Cowley himself, George now being both a friend and fan of the band.

The band came into being as a result of regular appearances at Worcester's Marr's Bar Jam Nights, soon attracting a cult following.

Their music is often irreverent and always heartfelt, the lyrical content often exploring the everyday via the surrealistic.

Their first CD - Invaders from Marr's - showcased their musical styles and sense of humour (e.g. 'Mother's Been Taken By The W.I.', 'Hereford - Land of a 1000 Charity Shops' and 'Epicentre Dudley').

A second CD 'Crisis at Christmas' took a wry look at the institutions of Christmas and raised a lot of money for homeless charity Crisis at the same time.

The November 2004 release, 'Ride Again' shows the professional benefits of having taken their time at Mayb Studios in Pershore and has received considerable local airplay.

The audio track featured on their website, 'Silver Mobility Scooter', is taken from 'Ride Again'.

This track contributes to the nation's ongoing law and order debate by proposing the use of the now ubiquitous mobility scooter as a weapon of stealth against street crime in particular.

The institution that is Shopmobility is also celebrated here, possibly for the first time in song.

The George Cowley Experience celebrate life to the full through their music and in December 2005 they released what some might say overly ambitious, album - a Folk Rock Opera entitled 'Evesham Knievel'.

Such is the Cowley Way.
