John Kear: Danny Jones ‘a real good fella’
Wales Rugby League head coach John Kear says Danny Jones was known throughout the game as “a real good fella”.
29-year-old Welsh international Jones died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest while playing for Keighley Cougars against London Skolars.
Kear said he’d tried to convince Jones to play for Wales in the 2014 European Championships.
“He was always a great character around the dressing room and obviously a very good rugby league player, otherwise he wouldn’t of played international rugby league,” said Kear.
“He was a half back so he was one of the conductors of the orchestra. He was very creative, very competitive and a really good try scorer and goal kicker“ he added.
