Chesterfield Celebrates
There's a painting in the Lord Mayor's Parlour at Chesterfield Town Hall of a scene of thousands of people gathering outside for VE Day.
The vast crowd of faces is being addressed by the Mayor in his robes standing on a dias. Before him are dignitaries including the Duke of Devonshire, massed ranks of the military in uniform, land girls, and members of the public.
The painting by Keith Swift was donated to Chesterfield Council by his widow and is one of the local authority’s treasured possessions.
Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio Sheffield reporter Kate Linderholm was shown into the parlour to see the painting by Vivian Miller, PA to the leader of the Council.
