Wilf Chapman鈥檚 Story
Wilf Chapman, 88, from Kettering, was 13-years-old and living in Kettering during the outbreak of World War Two.
He remembers clearly the streams of tears running down his mother鈥檚 face as Neville Chamberlin announced on the radio that Britain was at war once again. Wilf had seven brothers that all served in WW2, It was confirmed by The Guinness Book of Records that his family held a record for the most serving personnel from one family. They were only to hold this accolade for two years.
There was a parade and marquee put up in the town centre of Kettering for VE Day. He remembers having drinks with his family and then heading home, as he had to work early on the railways the next day.
