Was KP being left out of the England team inevitable?
It was "probably inevitable" that Kevin Pietersen would be left out of the England team, says former England batsman Ed Smith.
After scoring a career-best 326 not out, Pietersen jumped into a car to meet with England's new Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss, who reiterated that he has no future with the national side. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's Jonathan Agnew said we understand he is not officially barred going forward.
Responding to comments that Strauss may not have the charisma to lead the national team, Smith said "if you're electing someone to make decisions, do you want them to be interesting or do you want them to be good?"
"Playing good cricket ...is the way to reconnect with the English cricketing public," he said, not by "saying a lot".
