The ‘sea women’ of South Korea
South Korea’s largest island Jeju is home to the age old tradition of haenyeo diving.
Haenyeo literally means "sea women". The term goes back to the 17th Century when many men went to sea to fish and offshore diving largely became women’s work.
Today they can still make good money diving for abalone and conch and many argue they are more suited to the work than men.
Rajan Datar joined them as they prepared to dive.
