Born profoundly deaf, I got a cochlear implant aged 51
When it was suggested to Richard Bizley that he may be suitable for an implant he laughed, no way. He'd been deaf since birth and even with strong hearing aids, had only ever heard vague sounds. But now, he can hear everything. Jennifer Tracey spoke to Richard six weeks after he had a cochlear implant fitted.
Richard's speech is clear when you're communicating in person, but we decided to use an actor alongside Richard's voice where we felt it would be easier to follow on radio.
Richard is the boy on the far left.
