Falconer and Fletcher on the Assisted Dying Bill
A former Lord Chancellor has welcomed news that an Assisted Dying Bill is to be introduced into the House of Commons, and expected to be debated on 11 September.
The measure will be brought forward by Labour MP Rob Marris, who topped the ballot for private member's bills.
On the Daily Politics, Lord Falconer said: "That means that the Commons will - for the first time in some quite considerable time - look at a bill for assisted dying, which is fantastic news."
He was debating with Agnes Fletcher, director of Living and Dying Well, a think-tank which examines the evidence around end-of-life issues, when the pair spoke to presenter Jo Coburn.
