Scottish summer football switch could have European 'advantage'

The general manager of Dundee United says if Scottish football moves to a summer calendar it could give Scottish clubs a "competitive advantage" in Europe.

Three-quarters of Scotland's top-flight clubs told a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Scotland survey they would consider summer football.

David Southern said his club was in favour of "opening up the discussion" about a change to the fixture dates citing the benefits of "increased attendances" and "commercialisation".

"We also think there's a competitive advantage it would give Scottish clubs in Europe," said Southern.

"Instead of having the first round of the Europa League having played no competitive games you could instead in theory have had 20 Premiership games under your belt," he added.
