An application to get the Spanish resort of Benidorm recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site has begun.

The Great Wall of China, Sydney Opera House, the pyramids of Egypt and the Champagne vineyards of eastern France are among those already on the list of the sites worthy of special protection, but why does Benidorm want to join?
