Assisted Dying, Hopping & Unsung Heroes
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
MPs will vote today on whether to give some terminally ill people in England and Wales what some are calling "the right to die". A backbench bill would allow doctors to prescribe a lethal dose of drugs to patients judged to have six months or less to live and who request it. Critics say it amounts to "legalised euthanisia". Supporters say it will allow someone in pain to die "in dignity".
Also, just two minutes of hopping a day can significantly reduce the risk of getting bone fractures according to research from Loughborough University. The so-called Hip Hop study found men over 65 showed increased bone density after hopping every day for a year. Scientists hope this could help manage osteoporosis - or fragile bone disease which affects millions of people in the UK.
And, it's that time of year again, when we invite you to tell us about people who are making a different to local sport across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We're looking for nominations for this year's East Midlands Sporting Unsung Hero. The winner will go through to the national competition. Not to heap pressure on you of course, but it's worth a reminder that - rather incredibly - Leicestershire boasts two of the last three national winners of the 麻豆官网首页入口 Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award.
