Pass It On, Pensions & Teddy Bears

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Its Day 30 of 'Pass It On', a month-long campaign to encourage people in Leicestershire to sign up to the stem cell donor register. It was organised by Rik Basra, the Leicestershire Police Inspector who suffered from Leukaemia, but who's life was saved in 2011 thanks to a donor. Throughout the month of September Rik, his wife Kas and a whole host of organisations in the City and County have been trying to drum up support for the cause.
Also, will you have enough money for your retirement? A new report this morning from the Centre for Economics and Business Research is warning the cost of being a pensioner in 2050 will have gone up by almost 150%. That's just under 拢3000 a month to cover everyday essentials like housing, transport, and food. Meanwhile the study also shows that around 40% of those under 40 believe the state pension will be scrapped by the time they're able to stop working. So are we really prepared for the cost of our retirement?
And, most of us had a favourite teddy bear while we were growing up. Now a Leicestershire woman is heading up a campaign to ensure children of all backgrounds are able to enjoy one.
