Forward to the future: What will 2045 be like?
Futurologist Ian Pearson has told 5 live there will be "30 kilometre high buildings" that are used as "space ports" within three decades.
In honour of it being "Back to the Future day" today - the day which Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled forward to in the 1985 Back to the Future film - Ian was asked to predict what earth would look like in 30 years' time.
Ian also suggested humanity will be "asteroid mining" and everyone will be using "self-driving cars", but flying cars will only be used by "the sort of person who would buy a helicopter today".
The film did get a few things wrong, as it predicted by 2015 flying cars and the 19th instalment of Jaws would already be part of everyday life, although it did accurately predict facial recognition technology and video calls.
