UKIP defence spokesman Mike Hookem said the Islamic State group was exploiting Europe's open borders and the migrant crisis to carry out terrorist attacks.

The MEP told the Daily Politics the jihadist group was "taking full advantage" of "a weakness in our security".

He said the Paris attacks, which he described as a "tragedy", had "been helped by the flow of migrants coming in and the lack of checks and security on the borders".

Mr Hookem said Europe needed to strengthen its borders.
