Professor Patrick Plaisance is the head of the accident and emergency department at Lariboisière Hospital in Paris where many of the injured were taken after the November 13 attacks.

He says it was not the first time that he'd dealt with a large scale tragedy having been on duty during the Charlie Hebdo shooting.

"With these kind of weapons, it is very very serious fractures...the bone in pulverised," he said.

He explained that a lot of his team were quite young and his job was to try to lessen the anxiety his staff felt on the night, despite the horrific injuries they had to treat.
