I shut the door on child abuse memory

Only one in eight children in England who are sexually abused are identified by authorities, a report from the Children's Commissioner for England has found.

Sue Crocombe, who was sexually abused by a relative between the ages of four and twelve, told the Today programme she "shut the door" on her experience as a young adult but was haunted by the "terrible, guilty secret".

"It's taken counselling to see that I'm not at fault but the shame and the guilt you feel is huge," she said.

"Children don't readily disclose of their own volition and we need to be asking those questions."
