Mosley: F1 'simply too expensive'

Max Mosley, former president of Formula One governing body the FIA, says its owners will struggle to sell the franchise because racing has become 鈥渟imply too expensive鈥.

鈥淭here are only two or three teams that can really afford to spend the money that鈥檚 being spent now,鈥 he told Today programme sport presenter Rob Bonnet.

鈥淭he others are either on the verge of having to stop or at least greatly disadvantaged by not having enough money. I don鈥檛 really see how anyone can sell it until those problems have been resolved.鈥

He argued that a cap on spending should be introduced to create a level playing field so that 鈥渋t鈥檚 the cleverest engineer that succeeds not the richest鈥, but not everyone would welcome the move.

鈥淭he rich teams don鈥檛 want the less rich teams to become competitive,鈥 he said.
