Come to the top of the Colosseum in Rome to see the 2000-year old monument being restored.

Experts are removing the dark crust on the outside of the amphitheatre – caused by rainwater and pollution – before they build new facilities for the six million tourists who visit each year.

The 25m euro project is being paid for by the shoe company Tod's. They are the latest luxury Italian brand to rescue a Roman landmark, with Fendi funding the refurbishment of the Trevi Fountain and Bulgari paying to restore the Spanish Steps. Adam Fleming reports.
