Transgender prisoner: 'I feared being raped'
A transgender woman sent to an all-male prison has told the Victoria Derbyshire programme she was frightened she was going to be raped - with male prisoners asking her for sexual favours.
26-year-old Tara Hudson was jailed for 12 weeks after she admitted headbutting a barman.
She was moved to a female prison after a petition, calling for her to be relocated, gathered more than 150,000 signatures.
A Prison Service spokesperson told the programme: "Our top priority is the safety and welfare of those in our custody and we are reviewing our guidance on transgender and transsexual offenders. The revised guidance will be published in due course. It is longstanding policy to place offenders according to their legally recognised gender. However, our guidelines allow room for discretion and in such cases, medical experts will review the circumstances in order to protect the emotional well-being of the person concerned."
