In his speech to the Conservative party conference last autumn, David Cameron said he wanted an end to what he called the "passive tolerance" of extremist preachers.

Speaking to the Daily Politics, Bradford Council for Mosques secretary Zulfi Karim said there was "no evidence" to suggest radicalisation of British Muslims was taking place in mosques or madrassas.

He acknowledged there were "problems" within the Muslim community, but he said radicalisation was more likely to be happening in a family or community setting or on college campuses.

Mr Karim also said the government鈥檚 counter-extremism strategy, Prevent, was not working. 鈥淚t is actually isolating and marginalising communities,鈥� he told Jo Coburn.

He was joined by guest of the day Melanie Phillips, a columnist for the Times, for the discussion on Tuesday's pogramme.
