Winter swan count at Welney marshes
Wardens are busy counting thousands of migratory swans visiting the Welney Wetland Centre in a bid to get a clearer view of their numbers amid fears of a decline.
There are concerns the number of birds flying to the UK from arctic Russia has been falling over recent years.
Now rangers and volunteers at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust site on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border are carrying out a census to get a clear picture of the winter swan population... and it involves a very early start.
