Has Cologne changed views on migrants?

Journalist Raheem Kassam joined the Daily Politics to discuss whether the attacks on women in Cologne, by men of mainly Arab and North African origin, had affected people's views on migrants.

He said the incidents had had an "overnight" impact on the perception of migrants in Germany and would have "big ramifications" in UK. He also called for background checks on people seeking asylum in the UK.

But the guest of the day, Rev Giles Fraser, said the attacks had been "blown out of all proportion" and should not be used to turn sentiment against people fleeing conflict in the Middle East.
