'Five ministers will campaign to leave EU' - Montgomerie

"At least five" members of David Cameron's cabinet will campaign for Britain to leave the European Union, former ConservativeHome chairman Tim Montgomerie has said.

Among those he named were Home Secretary Theresa May, Commons Leader Chris Grayling, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers and Business Minister Priti Patel. He also suggested John Whittingdale, the culture secretary.

He said it would be "significant" if Sajid Javid, the business secretary, was to come out in favour of a Brexit, but he predicted Boris Johnson would side with the 'In' campaign.

Meanwhile, Will Straw, executive director of Britain Stronger in Europe, contested suggestions made by Labour Eurosceptic MP Kate Hoey on Wednesday's Daily Politics that up to 30 Labour MPs could back the campaign to leave.

He said more than 90% of the Parliamentary Labour Party had signed up to Alan Johnson's Labour In campaign, which supports Britain's continued EU membership.
