MSPs clash over Scots income tax raise call

The Scottish Labour Party is calling for an immediate 1p rise in Scottish income tax rates.

Speaking to the Daily Politics, Iain Gray, the party's education spokesman, said it was a choice between "swingeing cuts to schools and other services" by the SNP or using "the powers that we have to stop those cuts and invest in schools".

But SNP MP James Dornan contended that 2.2 million basic rate tax payers, including 500,000 pensioners, "will be penalised by Labour鈥檚 ill-thought out policy".
