To tackle climate change, the United Nations is resting much of its hopes on carbon trading, whereby rich countries offset their carbon emissions by contributing to renewable energy, forest protection and reforestation projects in poor countries.
But One Planet has found disturbing evidence the system is fundamentally flawed.
