The former head of the Flying Squad, John O鈥機onnor, has praised the response of the police after Old Trafford had to be evacuated ahead of the game v Bournemouth following the discovery of a suspect package.
A controlled explosion was carried out after two stands - the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and the Stretford End - were evacuated before the final game of the season and sniffer dogs brought in.

A bomb disposal team carried out the explosion at about 16:30 BST.
鈥淚t shows the contingency plans work,鈥 O鈥機onnor said.
鈥淭he police are likely to err on the side of caution and I don鈥檛 blame them.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e responding in a way which was admirable,鈥 he added.
