Jo Pavey: IOC needs to consider total Russia ban
The European gold medallist and soon-to-be five time British Olympic distance runner, Jo Pavey, has told 5 live that the International Olympic Committee must consider banning all Russian competitors from the Rio Games.
Russia is already banned from sending track and field competitors to the 2016 Olympics, but a new World Anti Doping Agency report has uncovered evidence of widespread, state-sponsored attempts to cover up positive drugs tests from Russian athletes across a wide range of sports.
Jo Pavey was beaten at the 2006 European Championships by a Russian athlete who was later banned for doping. Speaking to Sarah Brett and Colin Paterson on Afternoon Edition, she said that "to protect the athletes going to Rio and to make sure that there are not athletes out there that are doping," a ban is "the sort of measure that needs to be taken".
