Verdict on Russia has saved Olympics - Campbell
Following the Court of Arbitration for Sport鈥檚 (CAS) verdict to uphold the ban on Russian athletes competing at Rio 2016, Campbell believes any other verdict would have seen the 'death' of the Olympics.
Campbell, who won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay in the 2004 Athens Games, said: "This [verdict] is the rebirth of the Olympics. It's such a landmark statement that allows us to move forward. It allows us to go and be inspired by the pictures we'll see at the Olympic Games."
The Manchester-born athlete added: 鈥淎ny other decision not only would have been the death of athletics but also the death of the Olympics.鈥
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and 68 Russian athletes attempted to overturn the suspension, implemented by the body that governs world athletics but CAS upheld the ban following claims the country ran a state-sponsored doping programme.
