Will Down's syndrome test lead to terminations?
Could a new, highly accurate test to identify babies with Down's syndrome lead to an increase in terminations of babies with the condition?
At the moment, 90% of people in the UK who know their child will be born with Down's have an abortion, but the current test isn't completely accurate and can come with a risk of miscarriage - a risk some women aren't willing to take.
However, a new non-invasive prenatal blood test is 99% accurate and carries no risk of miscarriage. The government is currently considering whether to roll it out on the NHS.
