Basildon, Southend and Broomfield hospitals are all on 'black alert', meaning they have no spare beds available.

Usually, hospitals would declare a 'black alert' during the winter months when patient demand is much higher.

However, so far this year, Basildon and Southend have struggled to cope with demand for almost half a year.
