Aphantasia - Being without the ability to conjure up a picture in your head

Aphantasia is the condition that stops people from seeing mental images and is believed to effect around 2.5% of the UK population. Having no imagery within the mind, makes it incredibly difficult to keep long or short term visual memories.

As a theatrical lighting designer caller Paul found it impossible to visualise plans or ideas, but worked around the issue by creating elaborate drawings and computerised designs to work from for the stage. Listening to today's show he was astounded to hear the way his mind works being described on the radio and called Vanessa and Dr Sarah Jarvis to describe the frustrations of phrases like, 'can you just visualise that'.
