Help is needed to spot strange carvings known as witches' marks.

They're found in medieval churches, houses and barns, and the government agency, Historic England, wants help finding and recording them.

They're symbols, such as the "daisy wheel". It's a flower with six petals which is created as one continuous line. Creators believed that evil spirits would get "caught" in its "continuous loop".

Celia Richardson from Historic England says that the signs, along with a belief in witchcraft, was "very common".

She says the signs were created during construction and were located where there was a movement of air, such as in a doorway.

Richardson says that today we try to insulate draughty areas, but in the 16th, 17th and 18th century, people would look to, "ward off evil spirits" in those areas.
