The husband of a woman who is quadriplegic has said her carers treated her 鈥渓ike a piece of meat鈥�.

Mrs Janet Middleton and her husband Vic filed a complaint about the standard of home care Janet was receiving.

Janet said her carers 鈥渨eren鈥檛 listening to me, and they weren鈥檛 very caring鈥�, while her husband Vic said 鈥渢hey didn鈥檛 interact with her鈥�.

There has been a 25% increase in the number of complaints about the home care received by vulnerable people in England over the last year.

The Local Government Ombudsman has said that complaints include care workers being late for appointments or missing them altogether, and not carrying out tasks they would be expected to do.

UK Home Carers Association released this statement: "Councils which arrange services on behalf of their local people, and the social care providers which deliver care, must take a consistent approach to get things right first time. When this doesn't happen, providers and commissioners must act quickly to understand and act on people's concerns.

"As a professional association, UKHCA encourages social care providers to ensure that the people they support know that their complaints will be dealt with properly at a local level, rather than needing to seek redress through regulators or ombudsmen."
