Is cryogenic freezing no longer science fiction?

Having your body cryogenically frozen so you can be brought back to life at a later date may no longer be the stuff of science fiction. It comes after a High Court ruled in favour of a 14 year-old girl鈥檚 wish to be cryogenically preserved in the US. The teenager wanted her body frozen in the hope of a cure being found for the cancer that killed her.

Garret Smyth is the first person to sign up to being cryogenically frozen in the UK in 1986, and he hopes that once he鈥檚 died he will be brought back to life as a younger version of himself.

He told 5 live Drive that 鈥渁ll the things that people said were impossible are actually now things that people say are possible.鈥

鈥淚 used to get many a raised eyebrow, but now socially it鈥檚 changed and it鈥檚 got a lot better over the years.鈥
